'Tan Mom' inspires underage tan ban plan

"Tan Mom" may have hurt the tanning salons she loves so much. Remember Patricia Krentcil? She's the New Jersey mom who got nationwide attention for allegedly taking her young daughter to get a fake & bake.

The New York state Assembly has passed a measure banning kids 16 and under from tanning beds. The New York Daily News says the New York state Senate is expected to pass the bill next week. Then it goes to the governor's desk for his signature.

Most states have some rule in place when it comes to teen tanning, but it usually involves getting a parent's permission before a teen can tan. California and Vermont have the strictest laws on their books: You must be 18 to tan in those states, no matter what your parents say.
